If we as members of the human race practice meditation, we can transcend our fear, despair, and forgetfulness. Meditation is not an escape. It is the courage to look at reality with mindfulness and concentration. Meditation is essential for our survival, our peace, our protection.

Still Water Meditation Hall
Dear Friends,
The Still Water Meditation Hall, largest hall of Upper Hamlet, used for all the Dharma talks given by Thay Thich Nhat Hanh and for great gatherings such as at Vietnamese New Year, urgently needs to be renovated. As you many know, whenever we host for the summer or other very popular retreats, this hall can only host a maximum of 250 persons. Meanwhile, hundreds of others have to sit in smaller groups outside -- under the acacia trees, in the Buddha garden, in the dining hall or even further away in the Transformation Hall.

Young Buddhists and non-Buddhists for a Healthy and Compassionate Society
Buddhism needs to be recognized as a source of wisdom, a long tradition of the practice of understanding and love and not just of devotion. The spirit of the Dharma is very close to the spirit of Science; both help us cultivate an open and non-discriminating mind. You can join the Wake Up Movement as a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, an agnostic or an atheist. The practice of maitri, of loving kindness, the practice of sisterhood and brotherhood, is at the foundation of the Dharma.
